In July, Lisa and I toured the
Pacific Northwest. We started off in Oregon, drove north to
Washington and then
crossed the border into Canada. We had a great trip and
managed to combine sightseeing with visiting family. On the drive
back down to
Oregon, we did something unique which I have included on this
page. We
toured the volcano Mount Saint Helens. Not only did we drive up
to it and
check it out, but we also took a helicopter ride to the volcano.
Above is
Lisa with our helicopter behind her.
This is just a close up of our
helicopter. I got to ride copilot on this flight.
Check out the rim of the
volcano. You can obviously see which side collapsed.
Below the lip is a big cave-in area. In the top of the photo is
one
of the helicopter rotor blades.
The
volcano has been rumbling recently so we weren't allowed to get too
close.
In fact, right in the center, the volcano was steaming, but you can't
see it
in these photos.
Mount Saint Helens from a
distance. Check out the devastation below the volcano.
The big eruption took place on 18 May 1980.
