Wow, Sweden is a long Scandinavian country, eh? I tried to squish
this map, but then you couldn't read it.

into Sweden
The cruise ship is too large for Sweden, so we had to board these
tenders to go ashore. They can carry 150 persons, but they only
load 100 when using them for taxi purposes. For that matter, the
ship didn't even stop in Stockholm. We stopped in Nynashamn and
then had to take an hour bus ride to get to Stockholm. You can
see the Grand Princess in the left hand side of this photo.
View of Stockholm
Lisa and I did not do a full excursion in Stockholm. Instead, we
explored on our own. This is the square in front of the Royal
Palace. We went in that church at the end and we partially
explored the palace on the right. We had lunch at a nice little
outdoor cafe in another little square to the left of that church.
Another view of the palace square. The palace is the building on
the left. We caught the tail end of the changing of the guards,
but did not get any photos of it. The palace and cathedral in the
photos are on an island called Gamla Stan, which means old town.
We were told that an old tradition was to hang up a model of a ship in
their church to pray for its safety. We found this one in the
above church called Storkyrkam.
That's Lisa in front of the City Hall. This is home of the civic
government and the Nobel Prize banquet takes place here every year.
Lisa and I took a ferry ride across the bay to a little island.
They only accepted Swedish money for the tickets, so we had to run and
find an ATM. We were successful and we enjoyed our little
adventure. Here is another view of Stockholm from the ferry.
We were told you can't say you've been to Stockholm unless you have
seen the Vasa. This was the reason for our ferry ride. This
is a really old warship that sunk on its maiden voyage. They
think the reason was not enough weight under the ship, so it rolled
over and sunk. Anyway, they found it quite a few years ago and
managed to salvage it.
Ok, sorry for putting so much on one page, but it seemed easier than
making another page.
