This is the country where our
cruise started and ended. Since our cruise ended on a long
weekend, we decided we were in no hurry to come home so we
stayed one extra day in Copenhagen.
We disembarked from our cruise ship by tender in Helsingor. We
toured Hamlet's castle and worked our way by bus back to
Copenhagen. Then we toured the city for the rest of the day and
spent our last cruise
night on the ship. In the morning we transferred to our hotel
where
Lisa took over as tour guide. As is typical of Lisa, she was on a
mission
to wear my poor feet out. It turned out to be a great day and we
really enjoyed ourselves in Denmark. In fact, if I had to pick
only one
event that was really exciting, it would be our visit to a cathedral
(more on that later)!!!
Here we are once again taking tenders to get ashore. The only
other port that was too small for our ship was in Sweden. This
stop is
at Helsingor, Denmark.
We are on our way to visit Hamlet's castle (above). It looks
pretty cool from the outside, but was a little boring inside, so I
won't
include anymore photos of it. While we were checking out the
castle, the cruise ship continued on to Copenhagen. After
visiting the castle, we boarded buses and worked our way down the
coastline and eventually ended up in Copenhagen. The castle's
official name is Kronborg Castle.
One cool thing about Copenhagen that you can't miss are all the
electric generating wind mills/fans. They built them right out
into the
water.
This is a cool area called Nyhavn. This is where there is a bunch
of
outdoor cafe's. We saw it when we first arrived in
Copenhagen. Now
that our cruise is over, Lisa dug out a map and took us to this street
for
dinner. The Danish eat a lot of weird things like pickled herring
(yuck), but we managed to find something normal to eat :-)
Lisa on the same street. It used to be a shipping and trade area.

We also went inside this place which is called Rosenborg. We saw all
the crown jewels which are guarded here by soldiers.
