Our hotel in Budapest,
Hungary (pronounced "Budapesht") was in a great location as we faced
the Danube River. Lisa and I did a lot of
walking in Budapest. There are something like 9 bridges over the
Danube and we walked over three of them.
From our balcony, we could look down the river towards the Royal Palace
This monument was down the river a ways and up some hill. We got
ambitious one day and walked all the way over to it and then we walked
up the hill and checked it out. It looked better from a distance
:-) It's a monument to a Benedictine abbot who was killed by
being rolled down the hill in a barrel full of nails (in 1046).
OUCH!!! The monument is called Gellert Monument.
We kept walking further down along the river where we found these cool
little buildings which are built right into the cliff. On top of
the
mountain is the Citadel. It was built by the Austrians as a
symbol of
their power.
Ok, this isn't exactly Hungarian. We did eat some good Hungarian
Goulash, however, this meal was at a British pub. Check out that
big one liter mug of bitter (otherwise known as ale or beer).
This meal is shish kabobs. It was real good and interesting
looking too. Don't you agree???
This post card is better than the photos. We couldn't get back
far enough to get the whole thing. Below that large column is the
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The place itself is called Millenary
Monument at Hero's Square.
Again, the post card was better than our photos. This is the cool
Parliament building.
As typical with much of Europe, the church had a lot of power
throughout the years which is evident by the fancy cathedrals.
This one is called Saint Stephen's Basilica.
Check out the cool dome as seen from inside the basilica
