That's actually Brad in front of the pink building, but you can't
tell. We really enjoyed Tallinn. We didn't know anything
about the place
before the cruise. Typical of the area, it's another country that
has
been overrun by every other country over the years, the most recent
being the Soviet Union. However, they are currently independent
and I didn't hear much love expressed for their neighbors -- the
Russians. The pink building is the Toompea Castle and is
Estonia's parliament. It is on Toompea Hill in the upper town and
is directly across from the cathedral below.
This is the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Pretty nice, eh?
It's a Russian Orthodox cathedral completed in 1900.
We went inside and checked it out. We didn't stay long in the old
town of Tallinn as our excursion involved a couple hour drive into the
countryside to visit the ruins of a medieval fortress. We also
visited a
distillery, but Lisa and I do not drink spirits and did not enjoy this
part of the tour.
That's Lisa. If you look to the left and above Lisa, you can see
our ship.
Most cities have destroyed their city walls as they developed.
One of the unique things about Tallinn is that they left theirs
standing and built
around it.
