[Chicago]

Brad and I went to Chicago for Veteran's Day weekend. Brad hadn't been there before, and it was one of the cities I really enjoyed visiting back when I lived in Nebraska. Since it is a popular site for regional psychology conferences in the Midwest, I'd been there a time or two.

[Me at the Museum]

Me near the body slice exhibit

The first day we were there, Brad and I visited the Museum of Science and Industry. One of my favorite exhibits there is the body slice one. They have two human bodies, one male and one female, cut into about quarter-inch thick slices. It's a little gross, but also pretty cool, since you can see where all the different internal organs are and see what they look like.

[Water Tower]

We did a lot of walking while we were in Chicago. On the second day we were there, we walked down near the Water Tower to see it during the day. It's one of the few buildings that didn't burn down in the big Chicago fire. We also took the picture below of the Hancock Building, where we had gone up to the observation deck the night before.

[Sears Tower]

Sears Tower

We finally reached the destination of our walking tour -- Sears Tower. We waited in line about an hour to go up to the observation deck in this building. Despite the Malaysians' claim that the Petronis Towers are now the tallest buildings in the world, Sears Tower still claims to be the tallest, since the Petronis Towers include their spires in their height.

Fire in Chicago

Walking back from the Sears Tower, we saw a building on fire downtown. We stopped and watched for a little while as the fire trucks showed up, and Brad taped it on the video camera. He's uploaded the video somewhere online, and as soon as I figure out where, I'll put a link to it from here.

[Ferris Wheel]

Brad on the Ferris Wheel

We spent our last night down on the Navy Pier. We walked out to the end of the pier, which goes about 3/8 of a mile into Lake Michigan. The Navy Pier itself has party rooms, convention space, shops, restaurants, and a movie theater. We saw a 3D animated IMAX movie called "Cyberworld" that was pretty good. We also rode the ferris wheel on the pier, which is where Brad was sitting in the photo above.
