Lisa and I decided to go see Cape Cod over Labor Day weekend. I have wanted to go there for some time, but it's hard to find the time. We procrastinated too long and had to book an overpriced hotel, but the location was good. It was within bicycle riding distance to the ferries in Hyannis. Our first day was wasted driving there, as it is an 8-10 hour drive. We took our bikes with us because it's too difficult to take a vehicle over to the islands. Our biggest fear on this trip was the weather. We have had a TON of rain on the East Coast this year. Since we took our bikes, rain could have made the vacation un-enjoyable.
Our first day of fun was to the island of Martha's Vineyard.
Martha's Vineyard
Our luck held out with no rain. However, we encountered a weather problem I wasn't even expecting. It was too hot. The temperature wasn't too bad, but it was really humid. The ferry ride was enjoyable and took about 1 hr 45 min. This island is fairly large and was loaded with cars and people. There are a lot of funny little cottages such as the one below.
We rode to a nearby town (Edgartown) and back. Here is Lisa taking a break on the sea wall.
Phew, it sure is hot out!
Time to lock up the bikes and get out of the heat. We went back into town and found a three-hour tour on this air conditioned bus. The bus driver was really amusing which made it more fun. The bus was sure unattractive, though.
I hate these old school buses, but at least it was air conditioned! Lisa kept falling asleep which was funny but I can't talk because the ferries kept putting me out.
