HAWAII
Many years ago (in 1991), I had built
up enough frequent flier miles to go to Hawaii. Darren, his Dad, and
I all flew to Washington, D.C. when I was younger. If I remember right,
they had some deal, like get triple the flight fund miles for traveling then
or something. Anyway, somehow or other, I built up the miles. However,
even though the flight was free, I was too broke to do the trip AND none of
my friends could afford to go either. My Dad was cool enough to offer
and so we both went to Hawaii. It was a great trip. We stayed
in Oahu, Hawaii. We did all the tourist stuff. We rented a convertible
Mustang and went and hiked up Diamond Head mountain where there are still
World War II pill boxes, we went to the Arizona Memorial, we went to an authentic
Polynesian dinner, we went to the Dole pineapple plantation, we went to different
beaches, etc. I even talked Dad into taking an island hopper plane
and we flew to the big island of Hawaii. We took an island tour that
was great. We saw half the island which included a tour of a coffee
plantation, and best of all, an active volcano. Anyway, check it out...
That's Dad with the convertible Mustang. It
was a fun car to have in sunny Hawaii!
This is me after having hiked
up Diamond Head. There is a cool view up there. Behind me on
the right is a WWII pillbox.
That's Dad with the same view
We spent a fair amount of time at this
beach, but I can't remember its name. It has a big natural reef, so
the snorkeling is pretty cool!
Hawaii is known for its nice beaches!
This is one of those blow holes. I
had to wait for the wave to slam into the rocks to time this shot. The
water goes under and then shoots out that hole, sort of like a whale's blow
hole.
This, of course, is the Arizona Memorial.
You can see part of the sunken ship sticking out of the water in front
of the memorial where it was sunk by the Japanese in WWII.
