BRAD'S ADVENTURE
SITE
Ok, I know, this is a little goofy. I was looking
through some old photo albums and found some old photos that brought back
fond memories. I did a few adventurous things in the past. Now
that I am older, I think I would have second thought about some of these
things. Good thing I already did them :-)
Probably the most daring thing I did was going skydiving.
I would have serious second thoughts about doing it again, but it
was a great experience that I will always remember, so I am really glad
I did it. My good friend Chad and I saved our money and then went
to Desert Sky Ranch in Arizona. We took all the lessons and got ready
to jump. Then the winds came up and we couldn't go. We had to
wait for another day. Anyway, we were bound and determined at that
point, so we waited for another day and then went back and made the big
jump. It was many years ago (1991 I think) so I don't remember a lot
of the details, so I will just guess. We did a static line jump from
somewhere around 5,200 feet (??). We brought a friend of ours from
work (Tammy) to take photographs of our big day. My only requirement
was I didn't want to go first or last. Turns out they make the heaviest
jump first. I lost that one and had to jump first. I wasn't
too thrilled by that one. I also wasn't too thrilled when I saw the
small rickety plane we jumped out of. When it was time to jump, we
had to put our foot out on the plane landing gear, reach out and grab the
wing strut, then get out of the plane while hanging in the violent wind going
hand over hand across the wing strut to get out of the way of the landing
gear. Then the big moment arrived and our coach gave us the thumbs
up to let go. I was bound and determined not to make any noise, but
that rapid drop ripped my stomach out of my throat and I had to yell. Once
the parachute opened, it was super cool. The view was awesome, it was
highly maneuverable, and made it all worth while. Anyway, check it
out...

Dang, is that thing safe to fly??? :-)
That's me!
That's Chad
I don't mean to brag, but what the heck :-) I was the only
one from our plane to land
on my feet standing up. It
wasn't pretty and it hurt my ankles just a tad (no big deal)
but I was pretty happy to be back on solid ground!
Chad touching ground. I wonder if he is as happy to be on
solid ground as I was :-)
You know, its funny, when we did it, we were on an adrenaline high for
days. We made all these plans
to keep jumping until we got our fifth jump when we could do a solo,
non static-line jump. Well, it was a
good plan, but it never happened. That was my one and only jump.
I also always wanted to try hang gliding, but never got
around to it. Oh well. Darren and I used to go rock climbing
and rappelling, but I don't think we ever took pictures. I even asked
Darren once if he had any pictures, but he said no. Oh well.
4-Wheeling anyone?
