George Washington's house
This is the mansion where George Washington lived in the mid to late 1700's.
The grounds include the outbuildings of the plantation, like the clerk's quarters,
the smokehouse, and the coachhouse. There are also gardens and a greenhouse.
Replica of Washington's 16-sided barn
There is one section of the grounds called "George Washington: Pioneer Farmer."
There are exhibits that describe some of the farming methods that Washington used. He designed a 16-sided
Treading Barn for threshing wheat. The replica above was built recently.
View of the Potomac from Mount Vernon
The wharf is near the Pioneer Farmer exhibit. There is a daily boat tour that leaves from
the wharf (except during the winter months).
